CLASSES
Fenton Ballet Theatre offers a wide array of classes for the recreational and also the pre-professional dancer in a nurturing environment. Our highly professional adult staff is expertly credentialed with decades of experience.
FBT Annual Registration fee is $25, max $40 per family. All dancers will perform in the end of the year Student Showcase. Costume fees for dancers range between $50-$75. Please see Studio Policies & Dress Code for additional details.
PRE BALLET
Creative Movement
ages 2-3
Children are introduced to the basic concepts of rhythm and movement using creative games that expand their individual creativity. They will learn spatial awareness, listening skills, group socialization and structure. They will strengthen their bodies and learn coordination to ready themselves for the next level in dance. Our goal is to make sure we are building the love of dance in each child, nurturing their natural creativity in a fun and loving atmosphere. Additionally, our goal is to awaken interest, enthusiasm and self confidence through dance. Students must turn 2 by September 1st to register.
Pre-Primary
ages 4+

Focus will be on developing flexibility, building strength, and challenging basic coordination. Instructors will set age appropriate goals to motivate dancers while keeping the class imaginative and encouraging joy in movement. Barre work will not be introduced at this level.
Primary B
agES 6+

Primary C
agES 7+

Focus will be on developing flexibility, building strength, and challenging basic coordination. Instructors will set age appropriate goals to motivate dancers while keeping the class imaginative and encouraging joy in movement. Barre work will be introduced in Semester II at this level.
BEGINNER BALLET
Ballet 1
ages 8+
Ballet 1 is the starting point for classical ballet training. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the Russian, Vagonova, and Cecchetti methods. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. There is no prerequisite for Ballet 1. Classes are held once a week for 60 minutes At this level students are invited to take Pre Pointe based on ability and age.
Ballet 2
ages 9+
Ballet 2 is a continuation of classical ballet training for the young dancer. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the Russian, Vagonova, and Cecchetti methods. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Prerequisite is Ballet 1 or by placement. Classes are held twice a week for 60 minutes. Students must take class twice per week and will also be required to take Progressing Ballet Technique. At this level students are strongly encouraged to take Pre Pointe.
INTERMEDIATE BALLET
Ballet 3
ages 10+
Ballet 3 is a continuation of classical ballet training for the young dancer. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the Russian, Vagonova, and Cecchetti methods. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Prerequisite is Ballet 2 or by placement. Classes are held twice a week for 90 minutes. Students must take class twice per week and will also be required to take Progressing Ballet Technique. At this level students are invited to take Beginner Pointe based on ability and age.
Ballet 4
ages 12+
Ballet 4 transitions the young dancer into the intermediate level. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the Russian, Vagonova, and Cecchetti methods. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Attention is paid to preparing the feet for pointe work through stretch and strengthen exercises. Prerequisite is Ballet 3 or by placement. Classes are held three times a week for 90 minutes. Students must take class three times per week and will also be required to take Progressing Ballet Technique.
ADVANCED BALLET
Ballet 5
ages 14+
Ballet 5 is a continuation of classical ballet training for the intermediate dancer. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the Russian, Vagonova, and Cecchetti methods. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Prerequisite is Ballet 4 or by placement. Classes are held four times a week for 90 minutes. Students must take class four times per week and will also be required to take Contemporary. Students at this level must also take Pilates Conditioning for Dancers and Progressing Ballet Technique.
Ballet 6
ages 15+
Ballet 6 is a continuation of classical ballet training for the intermediate dancer. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the Russian, Vagonova, and Cecchetti methods. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Classes will include pointe work at the barre, center, and across-the-floor. Prerequisite is Ballet 5 or by placement. Classes are held five times a week for 90 minutes. Students must take class five times per week along with Contemporary and Variations. Students at this level must also take Pilates Conditioning for Dancers and Progressing Ballet Technique.
ENRICHMENT CLASSES
Tap
Pre-Primary Tap (Ages 5+)
Dancers in Pre-Primary Tap will be introduced to rhythms and patterns, and beginner tap steps including shuffles, shuffle hop and flap. Dancers will also practice coordination skills such as heel together, point together, marches, toe and heel drops, and more!
Primary Tap (Ages 8+)
In Primary Tap dancers will learn tap-rhythm and timing. Class consists of warm-up, center, and across the floor training. Proper terminology and musicality is stressed. Students learn shuffles, flaps, time steps, buffalo, and hops. No experience necessary.
Beginner Tap (Ages 8+)
In Beginner Tap dancers will learn tap-rhythm and timing. Class consists of warm-up, center, and across the floor training. Proper terminology and musicality is stressed. Students learn shuffles, flaps, time steps, buffalo, and hops. No experience necessary.
Intermediate Tap (Ages 8+)
Dancers will refine rhythm, timing, and musicality through more complex steps and combinations. This class expands on foundational tap vocabulary with an emphasis on clarity, speed, and performance quality. Prior tap experience recommended.
Jazz
Primary Jazz (Ages 5+)
Primary Jazz gives students the opportunity to experience the basics of jazz, which combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz, and modern. Students will also explore how dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Students must be enrolled in ballet class to take enrichment classes.
Beginner Jazz
A fun and energetic introduction to jazz technique, including isolations, basic turns, and across-the-floor progressions. Dancers will explore musical interpretation and performance quality. Students must be enrolled in ballet class to take enrichment classes.
Intermediate Jazz
This class builds upon beginner jazz technique, with a focus on strength, flexibility, turns, leaps, and stylized choreography. Dancers will begin to explore multiple jazz styles and dynamic movement. Students must be enrolled in ballet class to take enrichment classes.
Advanced Jazz (ages 12+)
Advanced Jazz will continue to build proper technique while focusing on isolations of the body, turns, leaps, along with improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz to develop a well rounded dancer. Students must take the required ballet technique classes at their appropriate level to enroll in Advanced Jazz.
Lyrical
Primary Lyrical (Ages 6+)
An introduction to lyrical dance that blends ballet and jazz elements with storytelling and expressive movement. Dancers will learn to interpret music and connect movement with emotion in an age-appropriate, creative environment. Students must be enrolled in ballet class to take enrichment classes.
Beginner Lyrical (Ages 8+)
Beginner Lyrical gives students the opportunity to experience lyrical dance, which combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz, and modern. Students will also explore how dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Students must be enrolled in ballet class to take enrichment classes.
Intermediate Lyrical (Ages 9+)
Intermediate Lyrical gives students the opportunity to build upon their experience with lyrical dance, which combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz, and modern. Class will focus on learning isolations of the body, turns, leaps and also work to improve performance quality. Students will also explore how dance emphasizes interpretation of music to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Students must be enrolled in ballet class to take any of these three enrichment classes.
Advanced Lyrical (ages 12+)
Advanced Lyrical gives students the opportunity to experience lyrical dance, which combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. Students will also explore how lyrical dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Students must take the required ballet technique classes at their appropriate level to enroll in Advanced Lyrical.
Contemporary
Intermediate Contemporary (Ages 9+)
Dancers will explore contemporary technique through floor work, improvisation, and dynamic combinations. Class emphasizes expressive movement, weight shifts, and musical connection, while continuing to build strength and versatility. Ballet enrollment required.
Advanced Contemporary (AGES 12+)
Contemporary dance incorporates the basic fundamentals of ballet and modern dance with the current movement styles of today. Students are introduced to modern dance vocabulary in order to develop weighted movement, floor work, and improvisation. Combinations develop strength and flexibility with a focus on proper alignment. Students must take the required ballet technique classes at their appropriate level to enroll in Advanced Contemporary.
Hip Hop
Primary Hip Hop (ages 3+)
Dancers will have fun moving their bodies while learning the basics of Hip Hop. This includes beginner foot work, isolations & more!
Beginner Hip Hop (ages 8+)
Dancers will learn the basics of Hip Hop allowing them to show off some of their individual style through fun dance steps and tricks!
Intermediate Hip Hop (ages 9+)
This class builds on foundational hip hop with more intricate footwork, isolations, and stylized combinations. Dancers will grow their confidence and individual expression while developing strength, rhythm, and control.
Advanced Hip Hop (Ages 10+)
A fast-paced, high-energy class that explores complex choreography, musicality, and freestyle elements. Dancers will train in a variety of hip hop styles and techniques to build versatility and strong performance skills. Prior hip hop experience required.
Conditioning and Technique
Pilates for dancers (ages 12+)
Using Pilates, the dancer is exposed to a broad range of material focusing on muscle control, breathing techniques, imagery and postural alignment to strengthen the entire body. There is emphasis on range of motion, as well as intensive work on abdominal muscles. Pilates Conditioning for Dancers provides an encouraging, informative environment for the advanced ballet student to work on the foundational exercises of the Pilates technique with additional focus on the body of a dancer.
Progressing Ballet Technique “PBT” (ages 8+)
Students will focus on building the strength, flexibility and control needed to execute ballet moves. This class is designed to improve a dancer's range of motion, enhance muscle flexibility and increase their level of core muscle strength. Through a variety of stretches and strengthening exercises, dancers will also increase their awareness of their own body's potential as it connects to expression through movement.
Pre-pointe (ages 8+ by permission only)
Pre-pointe class is offered to ballet students who are not yet on pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go en pointe. Pre-pointe classes stress correct alignment and correct classical ballet technique. Students should expect to take Pre-Pointe for a minimum of two years before getting pointe shoes. Permission only. Ages 8+.
Beginner Pointe (ages 11+ by permission only)
Beginning pointe class can be taken on flat or in pointe shoes at the instructors discretion. All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. Class by permission only. Students must also be enrolled in Ballet 3 or higher.
Intermediate/Advanced Pointe (ages 12+ by permission only)
Pointe Technique class can be taken on flat or in pointe shoes at the instructors discretion. All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. Class by permission only. Students must also be enrolled in Ballet 4 or higher.
Variations 1 (ages 11+ by permission only)
Students will learn classical ballet variations from well-loved ballets including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and more. Dancers will receive individual attention, and coaching on performance quality and execution. Students will be exposed to ballet history to further their educational foundation in the art of ballet. Students must be enrolled in Ballet 3 or 4. Ballet 2 students by permission only.
Variations 2 (ages 12+ by permission only)
Students will learn classical ballet variations from well-loved ballets including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and more. Dancers will receive individual attention, and coaching on performance quality and execution. Students will be exposed to ballet history to further their educational foundation in the art of ballet. Students must be enrolled in Ballet 5 or 6.
Acro
Introduction to Acro
This class will teach students the basic fundamentals of gymnastics. Children will learn cartwheels, handstands, and work on their bridge development. No previous experience necessary. Children must be at least four years old to join this class.
Beginner Acro
Beginner Acro focuses on strengthening basic skills, as well as teaching new skills such as back and front walkovers. To join this class, students must be able to do a cartwheel, and hold a bridge position for 10+ seconds.
Intermediate Acro
Our most advanced level of acro, students will work on more challenging skills such as aerials and handsprings. Students need to be able to do a back walkover in order to take this class.
